How
do I get there ?
We're pretty much slap, bang
in the middle of Camden Road. Which is the main road that
runs between Camden and Holloway. We're surrounded by a bunch
of tube stations - Camden Town (Northern Line) - Kentish Town
(Northern Line) - Tufnell Park (Northern Line) - Caledonian
Road (Piccadilly Line) and we're about 10 minutes walk from
Camden Road (London Overground). We're also on Bus Routes
29, 253 and 390. Click HERE
for a map.
Do you offer credit?
Thought we'd better get this
one out of the way quickly. The answer is a resounding Noooooooooooooo!
We accept payment in the forms of cash or cheque with a valid
cheque guarantee card. We do not take debit or credit cards.
What if I need to cancel
my rehearsal session?
Call us to do so at
least 48 hours before your session is due to start. This way
the cancellation fee will be waived, as it gives us a reasonable
amount of time to rebook the slot to somebody else. I.e. If
you have a rehearsal booked for 6.00 pm on a Thursday and
you call us to cancel before 6.00 pm on the Tuesday, you will
not be charged a fee. If you call us after 6.00 pm on Tuesday,
you will be asked to pay a fee equal to the room hire rate
for your session. Please note
that calling us at any time after 6.00pm in this instance
would mean that you would be liable for the fee. We gotta
draw a line somewhere and we think that 48 hours is a pretty
fair place to put it.
What if it turns out that
we don't have the money to cover our rehearsal session on
the day?
We do request that you ensure
you have sufficient funds to cover the full payment for your
session before you begin. Not an unreasonable expectation
really, is it? After all, you wouldn't do your weekly shop
in Tesco or wherever and when you get to the counter, tell
them that you haven't got enough money to cover what's in
your trolley, but don't worry, you'll sort them out next week
when your wages have cleared.
If, for some insurmountable
reason, you are unable to pay in full on the day, you will
be required to leave an item or items of equipment with us
in lieu of payment. The value of the equipment must be equal
to twice the value of the session debt. The equipment will
be held for a period of 7 days. If payment has still not been
made in full during this time, the equipment will be sold
and our payment and any sale fees, etc. will be recovered
from the proceeds of the sale. If there are any funds left
over they will be returned to you. For obvious reasons, this
isn't really something that we would want to make a habit
of, however, every now and then the situation does crop up
and... well... we think that this is a fair way of dealing
with it.
If we store our equipment
at Zed One, is it insured?
We are unable to insure any
item of equipment that does not belong to us. Besides the
restriction on our insurance policy, it would simply not be
practical and feasible for us to keep track of every item
of equipment that made its way in and out of the studio every
day.
We do therefore advise you
to ensure your equipment is adequately covered against loss
or damage. If you need any help in arranging this, please
ask at reception and we'll endeavour to assist you as best
we can.
Do you have disabled access?
4 of our rehearsal studios
are on the ground floor with a ramp leading into the building.
WC's, alas, are on the first floor, which is only accessible
by a stairway. Should you need help getting to the first floor,
a member of staff will be more than willing to assist you.
Do you have any jobs available?
We do receive a lot of cvs, and to
be honest, there's an awful lot of people out there but very
few genuine job opportunities in the industry. As a rule,
we wouldn't generally be looking to employ a student or recent
graduate unless you were absolutely exceptional.
From time to time we do take
on rehearsal staff, and for these positions the basic, essential
requirements would be someone who is fully computer literate
and has a good rounded knowledge of p.a. and backline equipment.
We do also occasionally have
vacancies for recording engineers, but again in this instance
we would be looking for someone with at least a few years
professional experience behind them. Preferably with a good
working knowledge of Apple Mac systems, Pro Tools, Logic and
live recording techniques.
If you are interested in working
with us, and feel that you may fit the bill, please drop us
a line with your details to vacancies@zed-one-studios.co.uk
Do you hire backline for use
outside of Zed One?
No. Sorry. All our hire equipment
is for use solely on the premises.
Do you sell refreshments and
stuff?
At the moment, we don't. We're
surrounded by a whole bunch of shops, cafes and restaurants
though, so you should be able to find something to suit your
tastes pretty much round the clock.
Can I book a regular rehearsal
session?
Yep. You sure can. For obvious
reasons, regular evening sessions are the most sought after.
Though there are usually one or two regular sessions floating
about. Midweek daytimes are more accessible as are weekends.
Have a word with our reception staff and they will let you
know what's currently available.
We have a show somewhere off
the north west coast of africa so we won't be getting back
into town till well after midnight. Will there be someone
there to let us put our gear back in our storage bay?
Storage access is from 12.00
noon till 10.00 pm, Monday to Friday. Weekends from 12.00
noon till 6.00 pm. However, please let us know in advance
if you require access outside of these hours and within reason
we'll do our level best to accommodate.
We really like Studio 9. We
reckon that there's a voodoo curse in there that makes us
sound much better than what we are. Can we have that room
all the time please?
Rooms are booked on an ad
hoc basis, and as such we can't really guarantee access to
a specific room at any time. It really depends on what equipment
has to be in which room for which session. We will, of course,
try to accommodate where possible, but please accept that sometimes
this just isn't practical. (Besides, all the rooms have a
voodoo curse on them).
Do you
offer any discounted rates for solo drummers or singers ?
Yep. We do. Though they do
change from time to time. Check the Rates page for our current
deals.
How
do I arrange a recording session?
We would suggest you either
drop us an email by clicking on
this link or give us a call on the main number. You can
have a quick chat to one of our recording bods who will be
able to answer most, if not all of any questions you may have.
We generally like to get an idea of the kind of thing you're
looking to do, (ie; style of music - whether you're a band
or solo artist - what you might need in the way of equipment
or production assistance, etc) This all helps us to match
you with the most appropriate person for the job.
If there's sufficient time
before the dates your looking for and when you call up, you
will more than likely be invited down to take a look around.
We tend to prefer that people do this, as we find that as
well as getting a feel for the place, it's easier to discuss
any of the finer points in person rather than making numerous
phone calls or playing email tennis. Recording sessions can
be weird enough for the seasoned pro, let alone an experienced
band or artist. The idea of a bunch of people, some of whom
have never met before, being thrown together in an unfamiliar
environment and being expected to produce and capture the
performance of a lifetime is none too realistic at the best
of times. It helps to know the people you're working with.
The sessions take on a more relaxed vibe, which generally
means everybody performs better, leading to a much better
end result.
You can, of course make a
booking without any of this shenanigans... and this is how...
More often than not the person
you initially speak with will pass you on to one of the aforesaid
recording bods. You can go through whatever dates you have
in mind and hopefully we will be able to find something suitable.
Should we do so, you will be asked for your name, address,
contact telephone number and email address if you have one.
We will quote you an all inclusive price for the date or dates
you require and make a provisional booking. We will then require
that you pay a deposit equal to 50% of the total session fee.
This can be paid either in cash or cheque (with a valid cheque
guarantee card, made payable to Zed One Studios Limited) at
the studio itself or via direct bank transfer. Once we have
received the deposit, the booking is confirmed and it's all
systems go. |
