Our
background is in rock music, That's not to say
we don't deal with other genres. That just happens
to be what we do best. The studio has been designed
from the ground up specifically to record live
bands. |
We
don't claim to have a studio "sound"
as such, as we believe that our job is to capture
your sound in the way that best represents you.
We don't really give a shit if this means putting
the snare drum through a fuzzbox, just as long
as you come away with something that you can be
proud of. |
The
main recording area, with it's built in amp booths,
was designed to provide pretty much total isolation
between instruments in a live session. None of
this everybody recording separately malarky. (Unless
of course you want to). |
The
wood panelled walls of the adjoining drum room
contribute towards a "live" acoustic
which tends to suit a more open and punchy rock
sound. A separate headphone feed to this room
means that drummers get their own headphone mixes
whilst recording. (Useful if no one else wants
to experience 110dB's of cowbell click-track.) |
Tracking
is usually done to Pro Tools, which with it's
powerful editing and ultra high quality plugins
and effects means that we can do things to your
sound that |
were previously unheard of outside of megabucks
studios that would cost you 10 or 20 times the
price. |
The
big fella in the control room is a Soundcraft
DC2000 console, which as well as it's 76 inputs
and great sounding eq, benefits from full "flying
fader" automation. (You know, the thing that
happens when everyone's a bit wired late at night
and the faders start to look like they're moving
up and down on their own when it's really just
the engineer trying
to impress the record company guy) |

We
do of course also have a fine range of industry
standard microphones and outboard and of course
the all important chillout area that has saved
many a poor soul from slipping away into the realms
of madness as the guitarist valiantly tries for
the 40th time to capture the chorus part that
they'd "nailed every time in rehearsals last
week". |

Now
obviously, having all of this stuff would mean
nothing if we didn't have guys who were capable
of getting the most out of it. All our engineers
have cut their teeth at some of the
worlds most respected recording institutes and studios, and
as we said before, all specialize in recording
live bands. Indeed, if you check out our other
stuff page you will find links to a bunch
of articles written by us aimed at helping you
get the most out of your sessions. |
Although
the majority of the work we do concerns recording
and mixing bands, we also do stuff like vocal
demos, whereby you tell us the song you want to
sing on and we put together the backing track
for you to come in and do your stuff to. Again,
have a look at the other
stuff page for more details about this. It's
priced slightly differently from the way we price
our regular recording sessions as it's a slightly
different process. Feel free to check it out. |
We
also offer a pretty competitive mastering service,
even if we do say so ourselves. So if you want
your stuff to sound LOUD and in yer face, this
is something worth bearing in mind. Once more,
further details are on the other
stuff page |
'Course
we can waffle on about how great we are for ages
but ultimately, the proof of the pudding is in
the eating. (whatever that means) So if you want
to have a gobful of our pudding, grab yer spoon
and plunge it into this
link here to get an earful of the type of
stuff we do. |

RATES,
DEALS AND HOW TO GET IT EVEN CHEAPER |
Our
Standard Daily Rate is
£175.00. |
This
is for an 8 hour day that starts at 10.00am
and ends at 6.00pm Monday to Friday and includes the full services
of one of our dedicated in house engineers. |
If
you book 3 days or more, it goes down to £160.00
per day. |
If you book 7 days or more, you can have
it for an almost stupidly rock bottom price of
£150.00 per
day. |
Wot!
32 tracks of Pro Tools for a hundred and fifty
quid a day? Are we mad? Naah! We just get a little
bit stupid occasionally. |
So
there you have it. |
The
only additional cost you might have to consider
is if you want to use our house drum kit. This
is a 5 piece, Premier XPK with 22" bass drum,
10", 12" and 14" toms and a birch
ply snare. It comes with 14" hi hats, a 16"
crash and a 22" ride. |
This
kit is reserved exclusively for the recording
studio and is kept tuned up and ready to go. The
hire charge is £30.00
per day. Again, if you need it for a few days,
talk to us about it and we will usually be able
to cut you a deal on the price. |
Oh
yeah. If you don't you need the studio for
a whole day, the hourly rate is
£25.00 though there is a minimum booking of 4 hours. |
